REWARDING SUCCESS.
As a leader, it is essential to foster an environment that values (and encourages) creativity and problem-solving among employees. Recognizing and rewarding employees’ efforts in these areas will further fuel their motivation which helps achieve overall success for a business.
Embracing this type of approach cultivates a positive work culture that thrives on collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement no matter what industry of operation.
Generally, the highest percentage of employees want to understand what their role is, what the performance indicators are, and what the future looks like for them if they commit to you, your customers and your business.
Many employees want to know “how much?” yet the majority of top performers want to know “how far?”
How far can I go with this company? Can I count on this company to be here for me? Am I appreciated as an employee? How can I be sure that I’ll be part of the future of this company?
If you recognize and invest in employee success you will create an environment of trust and creativity. Fostering a culture of integrity where employees do what’s right when nobody is looking. We’ll discuss in another post what it means to be a friendly manager without crossing over into the “friend zone” but essentially, consistently being friendly, fair and firm with your leadership is the way to get the best results with the least amount of push back.
Ultimately you will have to reward your top performers if you want them to continue to be top performers for your company. Being competitive in your market isn’t just about what you offer versus what your competition offers. It’s about being competitive in how you treat, train and compensate you employees.
Going the extra mile to recognize employees for growing in the right direction will help with employee engagement, aka “the buy in” as well as retention. These two ingredients are a key part of success.
